Have you ever felt like something was going to happen before it did? Would you act on this gut feeling and change what is to come?
Linda Hanson (Sandra Bullock) faces this dilemma in Premonition. The movie begins with Linda and Jim Hanson (Julian McMahon) admiring their newly purchased home with their daughters, Bridgette (Courtney Taylor Burness) and Megan (Shyann McClure).
Just as life seems to be going well, Linda wakes up to a reality she is not ready to face — the death of her husband. One morning she learns that Jim is dead only to discover he is alive the very next day.
Linda must figure out the puzzle her life has become and unfold the recent events to discover how and when her husband has died and try to prevent the inevitable. She faces many difficult decisions and hardships as she embarks on an incredible journey to try and prevent what hasn’t happened yet.
Linda is a very sympathetic and emotional character, a grief-stricken woman who is unable to understand the mystery her life has become. She desperately wants to save her husband and keep her family together, and she will stop at nothing to prevent what is about to happen.
Bullock (Crash) brings great depth to her character as a distraught wife and mother. This is one of Bullock’s many outstanding performances and may even bring viewers to tears at times. Her performance is only enhanced by the talented McMahon (Nip/Tuck), who takes on a very dramatic role and adds a realistic and likable perspective to his character. Bullock and McMahon definitely heat up the theater with their amazing on-screen chemistry.
This movie is an emotional roller coaster, leaving the audience engaged and often times questioning the characters and your views of them. Viewers’ assumptions falter as the unthinkable is revealed.
Premonition has viewers guessing and speculating throughout the movie until the very end. It is easy to get confused while watching this movie; the viewer is never actually sure what day it is and what has already happened. The days don’t play out in order and switch around, which is a great source of confusion at times, but most of it is neatly tied up in the end.
While the lack of order tends to be frustrating, this movie excels in other aspects. The concept is very interesting and keeps viewers’ attention throughout as they try to figure out the same mystery the character is facing.
Premonition is a standout film with incredible performances and an enticing plot. This movie will leave you feeling an array of emotions. It is worth the money and trip to the movies if you are a fan of drama.
Premonition is a captivating film that will leave viewers wondering what they would do if they were faced with knowing what will happen before it occurs and thrown into a race against time to prevent it.
