Sophomore Speaks: Enduring the woes of weather changes
It seems that lately Mother Nature can’t seem to make up her mind. One day it can be almost 80 degrees and humid, and about two days later, it’s in the low 50s. Lately it’s been more consistent, yet another warm weekend is coming.
I can’t take this constant fluctuation. The days when I wear a sweatshirt to my 9:10 a.m. class, I end up dying of heat by the time noon rolls around. Mother Nature is slowly making us all sick and she really needs to get her act together.
I’m not just complaining about not knowing what to wear; my body and everyone else’s cannot handle the weather changes. Going from hot to cold and back again so quickly could be the reason why everyone is getting sick and has the sniffles in class. It’s not healthy for us to go to bed sweating because it’s so hot and humid outside, and wake up shivering the next day because it’s 20 degrees cooler.
Usually, we have a nice transition from summer to winter. It seems as though we’ve skipped the whole fall season this year and have already dived headfirst into the freezing cold waters of winter. Many students, including myself, weren’t prepared for this sudden taste of winter and are lacking the appropriate clothing. I know every morning when I wake up shivering, I wish I had my fuzzy Uggs and cozy long-sleeved shirts to cuddle into. But after endless looks into my closet, seeing nothing but short sleeves and flip-flops, I know that’s not going to happen.
So a note to Mother Nature: Please warn us before you suddenly give us surprise warm or winter-like weather. We’d all appreciate it.
