Saving lives one pint at a time

By Danielle Gittleman

Rider is once again making it possible for students to help save lives on Monday, April 9.

Rider will hold its third and final blood drive of the year, sponsored by the Bonner scholars and Latin American Student Organization (LASO). The blood drive will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Cavalla Room.

Unlike the past two blood drives last semester, this final one will only be held for one day in comparison to its usual two days. Therefore, the Student Blood Council is encouraging as many donors to participate as possible.

According to the Student Blood Council, approximately 150 pints of blood are donated at each blood drive. Ashley Liput, vice president of the Student Blood Council is very enthusiastic about the drive.

“The blood drive is a really effective way for us to give back to the community,” Liput said. “I’m really hoping we get a lot of people to come out and donate this semester. So, if you’re willing to make a donation that is going to help many people, attend the final blood drive of this semester this Monday.”

Those looking to donate are recommended to eat at least four hours before donating their blood to decrease any potential problems. Also, donors are to bring a photo I.D. Everyone who chooses to give blood will receive a free t-shirt in addition to be entered into multiple raffles to win prizes.
