Letter to the Editor: Remembering Dr. Elliott

To the Editor:
I was saddened to learn of the death, last week, of Frank N. Elliott, fourth President of Rider University. Frank was elected to the presidency in 1969 at a time of social turmoil and great need for Rider to adapt to rapidly changing environmental conditions. He was instrumental in strengthening the faculty through the recruitment of many superbly credentialed individuals who were committed to outstanding teaching and sound curriculum development. Frank was a man of unbounded optimism, unshakable integrity and exceptional caring for those with whom he worked. I am personally and deeply grateful for the many professional opportunities he provided for me and for the support and encouragement he extended throughout our association. His legacy is one of broad institutional development, growth in stature and service to students. I know many in the Rider family join me in extending deepest sympathies to Betta, Sue, Ann and to the rest of Frank’s family.

–Bart Luedeke
Fifth Rider president
