Freshman arrested in alleged campus rape

A male Rider student was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 17, and charged with sexually assaulting a female student at the University, according to Lawrence Township police.

The 17-year-old male from Hillsborough, N.J., was arrested the same day the victim, a 19-year-old female, reported the incident to police.

According to the victim, who reported the incident on Wednesday, the assault occurred early in the morning on Tuesday, Sept. 18. The female student was in Hill Hall with a group of friends, including the male student, on Monday, Sept. 17. The group was reportedly consuming alcohol. The victim reportedly became tired and went to sleep in the room.

Around 1 a.m., the victim awoke and found the suspect was sexually assaulting her. She pushed him off her and left the room.

Based on this information, Lawrence police arrested the male student at Rider. He was charged with the crime as a juvenile and taken to Mercer County Youth House.
