A cappella unites the campuses

Vocalmotion members Meredith Bleemer, Matt Barron, Elena Camp, Tina Cartaino, Rajeer Alford, Richard Crandle, Troy Johnson, Samantha Ferrara and Conor Fallon sing “That Lonesome Road” by James Taylor at the ICAA Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinals.

Choral groups from Rider University and Westminster Choir College sang their hearts out in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinals on Feb. 12.

The competition included nine different a cappella groups from the region, including Westminster’s Deaftones and Rider’s Vocalmotion. Each was given 12 minutes to perform and were judged on arrangements, choreography, intonation and around 15 other categories.

Deaftones sang “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles and “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” by Meat Loaf. Vocalmotion sang five songs, including Beyonce’s “If I Were a Boy” and Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name.”

Vocalmotion won second place and is advancing to the semifinals, which will take place March 26 at 8 p.m. at Rutgers.
