Bryan Wentz, 2008-2009 photography editor for The Rider News, won first place in the regional Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Mark of Excellence Awards contest.
“I’m actually very surprised and excited that I won,” Wentz said. “It’s really cool. I can’t wait to go to the National Awards Ceremony in August.”
That Ceremony will be held in Indianapolis.
Wentz will be honored for his photo illustrations,  “Spiraling Dow,” from the Oct. 3, 2008, issue and “Does Drinking Age Matter?,” from the Sept. 26, 2008, issue.

“I never thought it would be me winning an SPJ award,” Wentz said. “I’m a psychology major. I guess it just goes to show you can do whatever you want if you’re interested and put time and effort into it.”
