Off-roading DUI
An underage male resident was taken into custody for a DUI after driving his vehicle on the campus green, the grassy area between the Bart Luedeke Center and Sweigart Hall, on Friday, Oct. 10, at 12:20 a.m. Public Safety officers were checking on a vehicle parked nearby when they noticed a male driving at a high rate of speed across the campus green and completing multiple spins in the grass. The vehicle was stopped and the Lawrence Township Police Department (LTPD), on a supplement patrol of the university, responded to the call.
A field sobriety test was conducted and it was discovered that the student was intoxicated. He was taken into custody and charged with DUI and reckless driving. He was also charged with reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and a university alcohol violation.
Intoxicated in Olson
A male resident was cited for underage drinking in Olson Hall on Friday, Oct. 10, at 2:20 a.m. A female staff member said she heard someone vomiting in the men’s bathroom and when she got a chance to talk to the male, she could smell alcohol. He admitted to drinking off-campus and voluntarily turned over alcohol he had in his room. It was determined that the male did not need medical attention. He was cited by LTPD for underage drinking and charged with violating the university’s alcohol policy.
