Lauren LavelleLauren Lavelle is a senior journalism major and English minor from Howell, New Jersey. Lauren has been reporting for The Rider News since her freshman year. Lauren served as News Editor for two and a half years before taking over the position of Executive Editor in April 2018. She has held summer positions at several media companies including an editorial internship for Working Mother Magazine in Manhattan and a newsroom internship at The Asbury Park Press in Neptune, New Jersey. Lauren decided to join The Rider News staff because, “I love getting involved throughout campus and The Rider News has given me the opportunity to attend events and meet people I wouldn’t have otherwise. Megan LupoMegan is a senior journalism major and legal studies minor from Ramsey, New Jersey. She has been writing for the Rider News since her freshman year and is the current managing editor. She was a news intern at NorthJersey.com for the 2018 summer. She loves to cover campus events and report on the passions and accomplishments of students, faculty, and alumni. She enjoys in-depth stories that reveal the essence and resilience of the human spirit. Megan decided to join The Rider News staff because “I want students to know what is going on throughout their school community, as they should know. The Rider News has been a staple to this campus for decades on how students get their news. The newspaper is, also, a great way to gain connections for the future. Theresa EvansTheresa is a senior communication studies and English major with a concentration in writing. She has been writing and reporting for The Rider News since her freshman year and is now one of the news editors. Theresa also serves as President for both Lambda Pi Eta, the national communications honor society, and Sigma Tau Delta, the national English honor society. Theresa has always been passionate about writing and credits her experience at The Rider News for breaking out of her comfort zone. “I have met a wide variety of exceptional people in this newsroom who have gone onto even bigger and better things. I love watching them succeed and I hope to follow in their footsteps after graduation,” she said.
Ryan ConnellyRyan is a junior sports media major who came from Wayne, NJ. Ryan’s favorite sports are Football, basketball, and baseball. His favorite teams are the New York Giants, Detroit Pistons, and the New York Yankees. This is his first year as the News editor for the paper. Ryan likes to watch TV and hang out with his friends. He also is a brother of Tau Kappa Epslion. Ryan said “ I am very excited to be apart of the Rider News, sports is something that I really enjoy so it comes very easy to me”
Robert RoseRob is the Sports Editor for The Rider News and covers both men’s and women’s basketball, soccer and baseball. In 2018 he won two second-place awards from the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association and was the Rider University Journalist of the Year for the Junior class. He has also written for various fantasy football websites and is a member of the Fantasy Sports Writers Association.
Stephen NeukamStephen is a sophomore journalism and political science major from Kent County, Maryland. He began writing for The Rider News freshman year while covering the men’s and women’s soccer teams. He was named Sports Editor in 2018. Stephen looks forward to providing the Rider community with complete coverage of Bronc sports.
Nicoletta FeldmanNicoletta Feldman is a sophomore from Mullica Hill, New Jersey majoring in Sports Media and Spanish. She began writing for The Rider News as a freshman and began training to be an editor in the spring of 2018. This will be her first semester as an editor and she looks forward to learning and growing both as a journalist and as a person. Nicoletta joined The Rider News staff because she saw it as a way to do something she loves while connecting with members of her campus community and gaining valuable experience.
Austin Boland-FergusonAustin is a sophomore from Piscataway, New Jersey studying Sports Media and Political Science. He has been writing for the Rider News since his freshman year, and this is his first year in the editor position. Besides what he studies, Austin enjoys music, spending time with friends and traveling. He hopes to become a sports broadcaster after college, and eventually get involved in national politics.
Qur’an HansfordQur’an Hansford, 19 is from Plainfield, New Jersey. She is a sophomore at Rider University majoring in journalism. Being a journalist was not always a dream of hers, but, her love for writing always remained a hobby. She kept journals filled with thoughts on her life experiences and current events and decided writing was something she would want to do as a profession. She took a journalism course during her senior year of high school and became the news editor for her school’s paper and fell in love with informing the student body on the daily news. She began writing for the Rider News’ opinion section as a freshman and now is the opinion editor. She always knew She had a lot to say, and now Qur’an gets to inform Rider’s student body with her thoughts and connect with the campus community.
Joe PasseroJoseph Passero, or Joe, as he likes, joined The Rider News in his freshman year as the social media editor. At 19 years old, from Freehold, New Jersey, he is currently a sophomore majoring in sports media with a minor in sports studies. While he one day would like to take those skills into the working world of his favorite sport, NASCAR, he also enjoys recapping episodes of his favorite show, Survivor, as well as producing other forms of media. Passero’s job at The Rider News is one of four that he works, and he loves it. “The Rider News is a great place to be. Jen BoyerJen is a senior Digital Media major from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has been writing for The Rider News since her sophomore year, joining the editing staff during the fall semester of this year. In the past, she has written for the News and Sports section. She decided to join the Rider News Staff because, “I have been writing for the newspaper since high school and journalism is a fast pace career that never sleeps. Tatyanna CarmanTatyanna Carman is a sophomore journalism major from Somerset, New Jersey. Tatyanna has been writing for The Rider News since her freshman year. She became a copy editor in the spring of her freshman year. Tatyanna also enjoys writing opinion articles. Tatyanna decided to join The Rider News Staff because, “I love writing articles and wanted to know how a newspaper operated.”
Amanda FogartyAmanda is a junior business administration major and event planning minor from Staten Island, New York. This is her first year as a copy editor for The Rider news. She is involved on campus with the Rider dance team and Rider dance ensemble. She is excited to work at the paper to improve her writing and see the final product of the paper each week. She has always been involved and interested in her education and writing. She cannot wait to see what new opportunities working for the paper brings to her.
Gabriella LaVerdiGabriella is a junior graphic design major and web design minor from Staten Island, New York. She’s been designing for the Rider News since the end of her sophomore year. The Rider News has already given her opportunities to broaden her designing to a new style of graphic design. Gabriella is looking forward to getting more involved with the Rider News this year and to expand her graphic design experience at Rider.
Gerard BlandinaGerard is a freshman film, tv, and radio major from Sparta, New Jersey. He is a video editor for Rider News. Gerard likes to write and shoot films. At his technical school, Gerard was named “ Cinematography & Film/Video Production Senior” of his class. Gerard hopes to become a screenwriter and director one day, still learning the subject that fascinates him.
Drew JacabacciDrew is a freshman at Rider University studying Filmmaking. He will be working on video content for The Rider News. He enjoys camera work and editing. Benjamin RossBen is a freshman film major from Swedesboro, NJ. He is a film editor for the Rider newspaper, where he also films the events happening at Rider. He enjoys making videos and taking pictures of whatever is around him. Ben hopes to one day become a cinematographer for a film production company and to become a better photographer.
Dr. Jackie Incollingo“Professor I.” teaches journalism in Rider’s Department of Communication and Journalism. She is a former newspaper reporter and Washington correspondent. “I believe student journalism should be independent, fearless and creative,” Professor I. said. “I am proud of the work of Rider’s student journalists.
